Gujarat Titans are expected to finish as lifters as we look at the ranking of all 10 teams based on IPL 2023 playoff probability.
Ipl 2023 Standings
IPL 2023 is currently in its third week and the teams are slowly getting into the groove by selecting their 11 players and squad members properly. Although we have only seen 3-4 matches per team so far, we don’t have a single team that hasn’t lost a single match.
Punjab Kings Ipl 2023 Schedule: Full Match Fixtures List, Timings, Venues And Full Squad
This is good news for fans as all teams are almost equally balanced with some hicks to their strengths and weaknesses. To overcome the weakness, the Impact player rule ensures that teams have a strong combination of 13 players per game with several backups to use when needed.
After seeing the combination of top 15-16 players from each team in their first 3-4 matches of IPL 2023, how about we analyze each team based on their squad composition and rank all 10 teams based on their chances for the playoffs? Well, it may not be perfect, but it is definitely a useful and unbiased analysis to arrive at the first 4 conclusions.
To understand the ranking of all 10 teams based on their IPL 2023 playoff chances, we find the cumulative ratings of their top 15 players. The players have rated reasonably well for their last three IPLs and domestic/international formats. Although the relative percentages are calculated on the basis of the benchmark players in the respective categories like Openers, Pacers, Spinners etc.
Importantly, 15 players have been selected given their first choice playing with 11 and 4 more backups. The four players can have many combinations based on the team structure. But generally we need at least 3 spinners, at least 5 pacers, at least 2 wicket keepers and a total of 5 foreign players in their team. This way we will be able to choose the best combination of 15 players for each team.
Ipl 2023 Points Table: Today Ipl Team Rankings List, Net Run Rate, Records, Playoffs, Final
Alright then, let’s take a look at the ranking of all 10 teams based on their IPL 2023 playoff chances.
First Pick Playing XI for MI: Isan Kishan [wk], Rohit Sharma [c], Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Jofra Archer, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Jason Behrendorff & Mohd. Arshad Khan. Additional Backup: Riley Meredith, Hrithik Shokeen, Vishnu Vinod [wk] & Nehal Wadhera
At number 10 we have Mumbai Indians and if not the analysis, the points table will describe their performance. The squad is full of youngsters with up to 6 players in a squad of 15. Also, Mumbai Indians bowling is their weakest part and if they don’t run, MI will have a tough time defending the games.
First choice playing 11 for KKR: Rahmanullah Gurbaz [wk], Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana [c], Rinku Singh, N Jagadeesan, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Shardul Thakur, Lockie Ferguson, Umesh Yadav & Varun Chakravarthy. Additional Subs: Tim Southee, Suyash Sharma, Mandeep Singh & Anukul Roy

Like MI, Kolkata Knight Riders are full of youngsters including their captain Nitish Rana. Andre Russell is their best player, but he doesn’t throw a bowl because of the impact player rule and comes to bat at 6 or less. Although KKR have won two matches thanks to some brilliant heroics, they are far from competent compared to other teams. However, they have a strong bowling line-up which will help them stay away from the competition.
First choice playing XI for DC: David Warner [c], Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, Abhishek Porel [wk], Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Anrich Nortje & Khaleel Ahmed. Additional Backup: Mustafizur Rahman, Manish Pandey, Chetan Sakariya & Yash Dhull
Number 8 sees Delhi Capitals and the points table is a reflection of their performance. Rishabh Pant’s void seems keen to fill Delhi in three categories including captaincy. Although Delhi have a good bowling range, their concern is the inconsistency and middle order of Prithvi Shaw.
First Choice Playing 11 for PBKS: Shikhar Dhawan [c], Prabsimran Singh, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma [wk], Shahrukh Khan, Rishi Dhawan, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar & Arshdeep Singh. Additional Subs: Sikandar Raza, Harpreet Brar, Atharva Taide & Mohit Rathee

At number 7 we have Punjab Kings who have a strong squad but lack two places. The team is not too strong in midfield and their reserves are not too strong either. However, their rating of 8.036 isn’t bad, and there are only a few games in progress. The return of Kagiso Rababda and Liam Livingston should boost the team’s confidence in the upcoming games.
First choice playing XI for CSK: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Ben Stokes, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni [c&wk], Shivam Dube, Deepak Chahar, M Theekshana and Tusshar Deshpande. Additional Subs: Ajinkya Rahane, Rajvardan Hangargekar, Subhranshu Senapati & Dwaine Pretorius
Seeing Chennai Super Kings at 6 might surprise you, but honestly, CSK’s biggest asset is their bowling speed. Their main player is Deepak Chahar who is currently sidelined due to injuries. Inexperienced pacers like Tushar, Hangagekar and Magala are being relied upon too much. If CSK don’t do well with their spinners at home, it will be difficult for them to make the playoffs.
First Pick Playing XI for SRH: Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aidan Markram [c], Heinrich Klaassen [wk], Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan and Umran Malik. Additional backup: Abhishek Sharma, Glenn Phillips [wk], Mayank Markande & Kartik Tyagi

Number 5 sees Sunrisers Hyderabad and they have a good squad including backups. In fact, they are one of the only two teams along with GT that have good backup players. However, having said that IPL experience is what they need. All their overseas players have only played a few IPL seasons. So even though they have potential, the team needed enough confidence to go through.
First Choice Playing XI for LSG: KL Rahul [c], Quinton de Kock [wk], Deepak Hooda, Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi, Mark Wood, Amit Mishra & Avesh Khan. Additional Subs: Mohsin Khan, Krishnappa Gowtham, Kyle Mayers & Manan Vohra
Lucknow Super Giants have a strong 11 in place and the presence of Impact players only makes it strong. LSG have all the potential to finish in the top 4. They have some top firepower in their batting and bowling. If KL Rahul regains his form and Mohsin recovers from injury soon, they will be the team to win the tournament.
First choice playing 11 for RR: Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson [c&wk], Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Kuldeep Sen & Yuzvendra Chahal. Additional Subs: Obed McCoy, Murugan Ashwin, Sandeep Sharma & Dhruv Jurel
Ipl 2023 Points Table: Jaiswal Replaces Faf; Deshpande Tops Purple Cap List
Number 3 sees Rajasthan Royals and they are the only team with a consistent first choice playing 11. We hardly see them change their playing 11. Also, they have a good reserve which helps them to rely on them when needed. With the form Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal are in, expect them to finish in the top 4 again.
First Choice Playing XI for RCB: Faf du Plessis [c], Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik [wk], Shahbaz Ahmed, Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, Josh Hazlewood, Mohammed Siraj and Karn Sharma. Additional Backup: Michael Bracewell, Akash Deep, Anuj Rawat & Suyash Prabhudessai
At number 2 we have Royal Challengers Bangalore and that shouldn’t surprise us. One of the strongest playing 11 on paper, and even though RCB might lose 2 games, they fought well till the end. With the return of Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga, expect RCB to come back stronger in the upcoming matches.
First Pick Game 11 for GT: Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha [wk], B Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya [c], David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Mohammed Shami, Joshua Little & Yash Dayal. Additional backup: Matthew Wade, R Sai Kishore, Vijay Shankar & Shivam Mavi
All 10 IPL 2023 Teams And Their Captains
Finally, Gujarat Titans are the best team on paper covering all departments. Gujarat may not have an outstanding squad but they have a strong playing 11 including 4 strong backs. What is special about GT is that they have a new winner in almost every game. Under the able leadership of Hardik Pandya and Ashish Nehra, expect GT to finish in the top 2 again.
So, these are the playoff chances of all 10 teams for IPL 2023. RCB, GT, LSG and RR are looking the best to make the playoffs. But don’t underestimate the power of CSK and the surprise element in SRH’s form. Personally, GT, LSG, RCB and CSK seem to be the favorites to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs.
