November 15th! Save the date as IPL 2023 officially begins with player retention for the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. All 10 teams together have retained a total of 163 players for IPL 2023. This includes 113 Indian players and 50 foreign players.

Delhi Capitals retained the most players with 20. Followed by CSK, Gujarat Titans and RCB who retained 18 players each. Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals retained 16 players each. While LSG retained 15, KKR retained 14 and SRH retained 12 players.
In terms of monetary value, out of a total of INR 950 crores given to the 10 teams, INR 731.5 crores was spent on retaining 163 players; that’s about INR 4.5 million per player. While an additional purse of INR 12.3 million was denied due to improper distribution of salary of 2022 retained players.
Teams now have a total of 87 players available, with a maximum of 30 available for purchase abroad. The 10 teams together can spend a total of INR 206.5 crores on these 87 players. LSG, RR and SRH have a maximum of 4 foreign players available for auction.
The IPL 2023 auction is scheduled to take place on December 23 in Kochi. Before that, teams have more than a month to think about the players they want to buy.
