The Indian Premier League 2023 auction concluded yesterday and it was an auction that grabbed huge headlines for records. In just the first hour we saw the auction bring us three of the most expensive players in auction history in the form of Sam Curren, Cameron Green and Ben Stokes.

While Curran went to Punjab Kings for 18.5 cr, Green went to MI for 17.5 cr and Stoke went to CSK for 16.25 cr. In addition to these three, 77 other players were sold at the auction. Barring Punjab Kings, all the other 9 teams have exhausted the quota of 8 foreign players in their squad.
A total of INR 167 crore was spent in the auction to acquire 80 players; that’s about INR 2.1 per player. A total of 5 players were auctioned for over INR 10 crores. So after going through the financials, let’s take a look at the official squad and player list for all the 10 teams after the IPL 2023 auction.
Chennai Super Kings bought 7 players in the auction. Apart from Ajinkya Rahane, all the other 6 players are all-rounders. Ben Stokes was the most expensive player bought by CSK in the auction and was bought for INR 16.25 crores. Apart from Rahane and Stokes, CSK have acquired Ajay Mandal, Bhagat Varma, Kyle Jamieson, Nishant Sindhu and Shaikh Rashid.

Gujarat Titans bought a total of 7 players in the auction. Shivam Mavi was the most expensive player in the auction at INR 6 crore. Apart from Mavi, Gujarat have acquired Kane Williamson, Odaine Smith, KS Bharat, Urvil Patel, Joshua Little and Mohit Sharma.

KKR was worth just INR 7.05 crore before the auction. As expected, they had a bargain buy and spent 5.4 crores to buy 8 players. Shakib Al Hasan was the most expensive player in the auction at INR 1.5 crore. Apart from Shakib, KKR have acquired N. Jagadeesan, Vaibhav Arora, Suyash Sharma, David Wisse, Kulwant Keiroli, Litton Das and Mandeep Singh.

Punjab Kings made history by making the most expensive buy in the history of IPL auction in the form of Sam Curran for INR 18.50 crores. Apart from him, Punjab Kings bought 5 more players but all the cheap buys were Sikandar Raza, Harpreet Bhatia, Vidwat Kaveperappa, Mohit Rathi and Shivam Singh. Even then, Punjab were left with INR 12 crore, which was somewhat disappointing as they could have added three more players.

But even after getting 7 players from the auction, none of them can count themselves lucky to have made it to the first pick by playing 11.
