Auctions always bring excitement. Over the years, some Indian players have earned huge sums of money. We take a look at the most expensive Indian purchase for a match in IPL history.
Delhi Daredevils broke the bank for the star Indian all-rounder in the 2015 IPL auction. Yuvraj broke his own record in the 2014 auction where he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 14 crore and became the most expensive buy in the history of the tournament when DD fetched Rs 16 crore.
World Cup 2023: World Champion Yuvraj ki salah, Panth Dhawan nahi ke khiladi ke tetna World Cup opener
Although he did not agree with the national electorate, DD believed him. He is locked in a bidding war with Yuvraj’s former franchise RCB who bought him for Rs 14 crore last season but released him before the 2015 auction.
However, the Punjab all-rounder did not have the best of the season as he averaged just 19.07 scoring 248 runs in 13 innings with just two fifties. He took one wicket in the nine overs he bowled in the match. DD released him after the season.
Prior to the 2015 auction, Yuvraj also hit the jackpot in the 2014 auction, as he was bought by RCB for Rs 14 crore. This is surprising as he is not in the best form and has also struggled with exercise. RCB contested it with Kolkata Knight Riders who entered the race late but then the franchise owned by Vijay Mallya sealed the deal. Malik later said that captain Virat Kohli was keen to get the All-Star.
Yuvraj started the season very well as he finished as the second highest run-scorer for RCB with 376 runs at 34.18 from 14 matches. He bowled just 22.4 overs, taking 5 wickets at an average of 37.40 and an economy rate of 8.25.
Ipl 2023: Rinku Singh and Yuvraj Singh got angry with this batsman’s performance
Delhi Daredevils bought Dinesh Karthik for 12.5 crores in the IPL auction. He has returned to the franchise where he started his IPL career. Karthik had a good season for Mumbai Indians in 2013 but the franchise did not retain him and did not use the right-to-match card for the wicket-keeper batsman.
DD spent good money to buy the wicket keeper batsman. However, Karthik had an average season with DD, averaging 23.21, scoring 325 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 125.96.
Jaydev Unaddict ‘happy and flying’ after Rajasthan Royals broke the bank and spent Rs 11.5 crore to buy the Saurashtra fast bowler, nearly seven times his initial price. He was the most expensive buyer of the competition.
It comes after a similar domestic performance, a man-of-the-match performance against Sri Lanka a month ago and he had a good season with Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017, happy with his death bowling. Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab started a bidding war and it went up to Rs 11 crore before RR jumped in and bagged a deal worth Rs 11.5 crore. However, Annaduct averaged a poor 44.18 for the season and took 11 wickets in 15 matches at 9.65 runs per over.
Yuvraj Singh Announces His Retirement From International Cricket
Gambhir became the most expensive player in the IPL when he was bought from KKR for Rs 11.04 crore, more than 12 times his starting price in the 2011 auction.
He proved to be a worthwhile investment as he paid instant dividends with 378 runs in 15 innings at 34.36 and then led KKR to two consecutive IPL titles.
Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab were all interested in buying Rahul and joined the bidding war before the hammer fell in favor of KXIP for 11 crores in the 2018 IPL auction. Rahul has done well for India in T20Is and has played some storming innings in the IPL in the past.
He had an outstanding season, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer, KXIP’s top-scorer, scoring 659 at 54.91 in 14 matches. He then became the director of the franchise.
Ipl 2022 Mega Auction: When Yuvraj Singh Called Mumbai Indians’ Ishan Kishan A ‘special Player’
Manish Pandey hit the jackpot in the 2018 auction when he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 11 crores. He had a good 2017 season where he scored 396 runs at 49.50 for KKR but was not retained by the franchise.
SRH brought in Pandey to bolster their batting line-up. However, he ended the season with an average of 25.81 from 13 innings and scored 284 runs in the 2018 season.
One of the marquee players of the tournament, RCB bought Dinesh Karthik for Rs 10.5 crore in the 2015 auction. It increased to five times its initial value. RCB needed a wicketkeeper batsman when they traded Parthiv Patel to Mumbai Indians.
Karthik didn’t have the best of seasons with DD in 2014 and didn’t look good for the price of 12.5 crore as he averaged 23.21, scored 325 runs.
